After acquiring the basic knowledge and skills necessary to become a professional in the tourism industry in the first two years, students have the opportunity to specialize themselves from the third year on. This specialization is aimed at giving students better career opportunities after graduation. There are 8 subjects students can choose from including history, environment, welfare, and hotel business. Please choose which subject you would be interested in.

Cultural and History:Learn how to understand, preserve and respect our world heritage
Learn about the value of world heritage sites and the importance of inheriting them

There are about 830 world heritage sites as of July 2006. These sites attract attention as major tourist destinations for many countries and their preservation is one of the most important current issues of the tourism industry. In this field of study, students will study the history of world heritage sites, the importance of cultural heritage, and how important it is to protect these sites. Students will also do research about how to protect cultural heritage and how to promote cultural exchange between tourists and local people.

Eco-tourism:How can tourism co-exist with nature? Eco-tourism.
Study new ways of traveling that are kind to people and nature alike

Since environmental problems have become a worldwide issue the so called eco-movement has gained impetus. The goal of this movement is to help people find a new way to live in coexistence with nature. As a response the tourism industry has also been seeking new kinds of tourism that focuses on the importance of respecting nature and the environment. In the course the students will learn how to recognize and analyze environmental problems of different areas and how to approach and solve those problems. They will also learn how to protect the environment by communicating more with the local people.

Cruise Tourism:Be a professional of the burgeoning cruise tourism industry
Demands for cruise tourism among baby boomers has been increasing

Since 1989, which is considered to be the “First Year of Cruising,” the Japanese cruise business has been growing. The business is expected to grow even more in the future as the baby boomers are retiring. Students will systematically learn about cruise business and explore specific business models in order to be able to work as a specialist in this field after graduation. Students will learn how to improve their communicative ability and how to satisfy the needs and wishes of cruise customers.

Airline Industry: Contribute to the development of the airline industry
Study about the development of the tourism in relation to the airline industry

After the partial liberalization of airfares in 1997, many discount airlines joined the market and the airline industry became very competitive. For that reason airlines are looking for people who have a specialized knowledge in this field. In this course the students will learn about services provided in an airport and the history and the development of the airline industry. They will acquire a complete overview over the airline industry and how to use the benefits of this industry for the development of new tourist sites. They will be trained to become professionals in this industry.

HEALTH TOURISM: The benefits of traveling for our health
Study how traveling can improve our health

Health tourism or travel therapy is a way to improve our health by traveling. Nowadays, people are concerned about stress prevention and stress relief and this new kind of tourism offers them a solution in the form of health therapy. In cooperation with local authorities in Hyogo prefecture and Kobe City as well as businesses and other universities our university offers students the opportunity to do research in this field. As Kobe is close to the famous hot springs of Arima and Kinosaki our university offers students a supreme location for their research and studies.

BARRIER-FREE TOURISM: Making traveling possible for everybody
Share the joy of traveling with elderly and the physically challenged people

Barrier-free tourism focuses on the needs and wishes of elderly and physically-challenged people. Its goal is to provide people with difficulties the same freedom as people without difficulties. In order to achieve this students have to learn to see the world from the point of view of this group of people. They will acquire basic medical knowledge and learn how to design and suggest trips for people with difficulties.

HOTEL MANAGEMENT: Become the leader in hospitality
Learn how to provide the best service in the most competitive industry

As a result of the globalization of the world the hotel industry has changed dramatically. Today foreign hotel chains and Japanese hotel chains fiercely compete against each other. This course is aimed at students with an interest in hotel management and the service industry. They will learn about the latest hotel management, how to attend customers, how to provide other services in cooperation with the tourism and transport industry. Students will also learn how to provide the best and warmest treatment to their guests.

EVENT COORDINATOR: Learn how to manage and organize various events
Learn how to plan and realize unforgettable events

In this course the students have the chance to learn the art of event planning by actively participating in the planning and organization of events. Students will learn how to promote tourists sites by organizing different kinds of events such as wedding ceremonies, concerts, theatre performances, musicals etc. By actively participating in the planning of events students will acquire the skills and the knowledge necessary to become an event coordinator.
